Comparison of Copilot Pro by Microsoft and ChatGPT Plus: Which is the Better Option?

3 min read

Microsoft has recently introduced Copilot Pro, a monthly subscription service priced at $20, which incorporates GPT-4 Turbo technology into various Microsoft Office 365 programs.

The newly rebranded Copilot from Microsoft, formerly known as Bing Chat, offers users a glimpse of the capabilities of GPT-4 without requiring a ChatGPT Plus subscription fee. This free chatbot platform provides comparable features to those offered by OpenAI’s ChatGPT Plus subscription, which costs $20 per month.

Despite the monthly cost, many users may favor ChatGPT Plus over Copilot due to its sluggish response speed and 4,000-character limit. However, the introduction of Microsoft Pro may result in a decline of paying subscribers for ChatGPT Plus.

One of the major benefits of Copilot Pro is its ability to extend Copilot capabilities beyond the chatbot platform and seamlessly incorporate them into popular programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote.

There is now no need to copy and paste between the chatbot and Microsoft 365 for tasks such as summarizing a document, compiling an email, or getting assistance with a pivot table.

The Copilot Pro software has the capability to create a complete PowerPoint presentation or perform data analysis and generate charts in Excel.

The data is stored in a buffered format.

Priority access to GPT-4 Turbo is given to pro users, while free users are only able to access it during off-peak times.

In contrast to free users who receive only 15 daily boost credits, Pro users are granted 100 daily boost credits. These boost credits allow users to skip ahead in the compute resource queue, which is useful when they need an image to be generated quickly.

Advanced users also have the ability to generate Copilot GPTs, which function similarly to OpenAI’s GPTs but can be utilized within Microsoft 365 programs.

For those who are currently subscribed to Microsoft 365, the additional $20 per month could potentially be a valuable investment in increasing productivity. Individuals who choose to enroll in Copilot Pro may struggle to find a valid reason to continue their ChatGPT Plus subscription.

Microsoft 365 Copilot

The release of Copilot for Microsoft 365 is now accessible to individuals and small enterprises, as Microsoft has officially announced. This tool was previously limited to larger businesses with a minimum requirement of 300 seats and a monthly license fee of $30.

The Copilot Pro plans do not offer the additional features that are included in the extra $10 package. Users who opt for this package will have access to a real-time intelligent office assistant that can be utilized with all of their organization’s data.

The Pro plan does not offer the capability to join and summarize Teams meetings, unlike the option available on the Pro plan. If you are in need of an AI office assistant with comprehensive understanding and overview of your interactions through Microsoft 365 apps, the additional $10 may be a valuable investment.

An option available in Microsoft 365 is to request for a compilation of action items discussed in a Teams meeting and have it sent via email to your team, along with the most recent statistics from an Excel file. On the other hand, Copilot Pro has a more limited integration and only provides features within specific applications rather than across multiple ones.

The largest investor in OpenAI is Microsoft and both companies state that they are partners rather than rivals. However, this recent action by Microsoft could potentially result in taking away paying clients from OpenAI.

The potential release of GPT-5 by OpenAI could incentivize ChatGPT Plus subscribers to remain subscribed.
